Why Become Vegetarian or Vegan?

There are many reasons for which people choose to remove meat and/or animal products from their diets. For some, it will be environmental reasons, for others, health, emotional, or even spiritual reasons.

The environmental reasons are easy to understand. Producing one pound of meat will take in average 7 times more energy and resources than one pound of cereals, and sometimes a lot more than that. Animals must feed on plants, therefore needing the water, oil for transportation, soil, and added products of all the plants they eat during their lives, plus the water, oil, soil and added products and (very bad) hormones that they are given. Producing meat takes a lot more space, and leaves a lot more waste in the environment then producing plants, whether they are organically grown or not. The fertility of most soil is presently endangered or long gone by the meat products industry (and from the un-organically grown plants as well), for the first time (to our knowledge) of human history.

Some people become vegan because of the bad treatment that is done to animals. Insufficient life space, painful burning and removal of the beaks, claws and horns, hard and stressful conditions of living, etc. Understanding the fact that we are what we eat, seeing animals living such stressful, violent and fearful lives, it is no surprise that most people accept violence, stress and fear as normal, and live in such a state of mind.

A third reason for which people can stop eating meat is for their own health. Meat eaters threaten the health of environment and animals they eat, as well as their own. Our body doesn’t get as much benefits from meat as it does from plants, and the product of meat un-digestion stays in the body as toxins and wastes hard to get rid of, being stocked as fats, acidifying the body, and removing up to 25% of the oxygen normally needed by our cells, which have a harder time doing their job.

Amino acids contained in plants, especially in dark green leaves (spinach, kale, collard, etc), and in sprouts, give the body all the proteins it needs with much less work than when it decorticates meat’s complex proteins.

The portion of fruits and vegetables, cereals and unprocessed foods needed to be healthy keep increasing in the recommendations of health professionals. Their antioxidant properties, along with a profusion of vitamins, minerals, and most importantly enzymes when raw, along with great quality fats, carbohydrates and proteins, make them the best food for a healthy human body.

A healthy body brings a healthy spirit. Another reason for which people choose to become vegan. Spiritual awareness, energy and feelings of connection seem more accessible after a light vegan meal than after a heavy meat and starchy meal. For many people, changing meat-eating habits help a spiritual feeling develop better.

A plant based diet seems to be the best one, no matter from which aspect you look at it!
